A Festival to celebrate the Easter Events as the Heart of Anthroposophy
These four days at the end of Holy Week give us the opportunity to contemplate the Gospel narratives, works of art that illustrate these events, and how Rudolf Steiner’s Christology invites us to understand what it means for our unfinished human evolution
Thursday – The meal on Thursday is the last time the twelve disciples are together. Leonardo’s ‘Last Supper’ and the individuality of Judas. Music by Ben Hess on cello, ‘Improvisations’
Friday – ‘Calvary’ and ‘Golgotha’ refer to the skull and the place where the crucifixion took place. Raphael’s Crucifixion (which is in the National Gallery in London) and the individuality of Raphael Sanzio. The Recorder Group will perform music by Henry Purcell.
Saturday – Christ’s Descent into the Earth as narrated in the Gospel of Nicodemus, as described by Rudolf Steiner in his elaboration of the Phantom in From Jesus to Christ (GA131), and the further work of Sergei Prokofieff in his book The Earth Becomes a Sun. The Festival Eurythmy Group with perform a piece by Gerard Manley Hopkins, music performed by the Recorder group by William Byrd.
Sunday – A celebration of the Resurrection and how we experience that today. The lecture will be followed by an open space for shared thoughts and reflections and a simple Easter Breakfast. Music by Ben Hess on cello by Bach.
Illustrated with images by Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and other artists, Andrew Wolpert will give a lecture each day on the themes in the context of what Rudolf Steiner described from his spiritual research.
These four days are conceived as a whole, but we recognise that the reality of daily life means it might not be possible for everyone to attend all the sessions, you will be welcome to participate when you can.
Andrew Wolpert.
